My Story
My love of animals started at a very early age, when I became fascinated with horses and started to ride at the age of five. When I left school, I chose to go and work with horses, before opening up my own shop in 2007 selling equestrian goods: Equessentials.
Dogs have always been part of my life. Me and my husband Ian have always had two dogs (one dog each stops the arguments!), a German Shepherd and some sort of rescue crossbreed. I have always been very drawn to the rehabilitation of animals, in particular horses and dogs, and my previous German Shepherd, Khan, inspired me to learn more as he needed a lot of therapeutic treatment and care in the latter part of his life, due to suffering from Degenerative Myelopathy (CDRM). My thirst for knowledge only increased when I bought an ex-racehorse, Maggie, with many behavioural and physical issues.
Kipp, my second German Shepherd tragically suffered a spinal injury at the age of nine months. At this time, I was in constant discussion with Vets and various canine therapists and I started his rehabilitation in earnest. Through his rehabilitation programme, I heard about Julia Robertson and The Galen Myotherapy Centre, and I took Kipp along to meet Julia. He responded very well to Myotherapy treatment, and I noticed that Julia also had a deep understanding of canine behaviour. A strong bond was formed between therapist and dog (this is essential for effective myotherapy treatment). Kipp was an incredibly special boy.
King is my current German Shepherd, rescued at 10 months old from a hideous situation. This sensitive lad has taught me so much about nervous dogs and their body language. King now has a new friend: Mia, a German Shepherd Puppy. Each and every dog that I own teaches me something new, we never stop learning do we!
